Cradle of Humankind

This part of South Africa is famous throughout the world for the discovery of some of the oldest human fossils ever found. Of course, heading out here from Johannesburg also offers the chance to enjoy some of the region’s spectacular natural scenery as well.

Johannesburg Zoo Lake

For a peaceful few hours in the big city, there are few better options than that of heading to the popular Zoo Lake in the Hermann Eckstein Park. This is located across from Johannesburg Zoo and features the lovely Coronation Fountain as one if its highlights.

This is a wonderful picnic spot and it is also ideal for hiring a boat, jogging or just going for a walk. There are a number of restaurants here and there are also musical events held throughout the year, such as the Jazz on the Lake festival.
